Registration
A pony is eligible for registration,on payment of the appropriate fee, as prescribed from time to time by the Board of Directors, the owner of a pony eligible for registration shall have such pony recorded in the Association's Stud Book.
The Board of Directors shall have the right to cancel the registration of any pony registered in the Association's Stud Book if it is satisfied that after entry or transfer, the entry was authorized as a result of a misstatement by the owner, or any person acting on the owner's behalf, or fails to comply with the conditions of registration. The name of a pony in the New Forest Pony Association's Stud Book shall not be changed after entry. A registration certificate is only valid if it is in the correct owner's name.
Requirements for registering in the New Forest Pony Association, Inc. Stud Book if the sire and dam has been registered and licensed with the NFPA or any other recognized New Forest Pony registry or stud book, provided that in all cases, the pony is neither: piebald or skewbald (for the purposes of registration, a pony shall not have white markings over pink skin above the knees or hocks or behind the head, unless they are acquired from scars) or blue-eyed cream. After 1990, dark-eyed palominos with light manes and tails and very light chestnuts are only eligible as mares or as geldings. No New Forest Pony shall exceed 14.2hh (147 cm).
No foal can be registered unless the sire has been registered and licensed before the mare was covered. Licensing inspections will normally be done at two-years-old, along with blood-typing at this time. A second inspection is required at or before May 1St in the stallion's fifth year, except in exceptional circumstances when the decision of the Board of Directors shall be final. Inspection forms and blood typing kits may be obtained from the NFPA, Inc. Secretary. Stallion Licenses and Veterinary Certificates issued by the New Forest Pony Breeding & Cattle Society shall be honored by the Association.
The NFPA Registry established different sections:
Section A - New Registrations for that year, US born Ponies only.
Section B - Re-entries of NFP previously registered and recognized outside New Forest Pony Stud Books.
Section C - For the crossbred New Forest pony that has one parent purebred New Forest.
Section F- Foreign Ponies from Canada only.
Section G - Ponies with more than 6.5% Golden Wonder Blood.
All applications for Registration must be open to inspection and/or blood typing. Artificial Insemination (A.I.) is allowed by the New Forest Pony Association, Inc. & Registry. Embryo Transfer remains prohibited at the present time.
Prefixes
The Association shall compile and maintain a list of Prefixes to be used in conjunction with the names of ponies included in the Stud Book. A Prefix shall be included with the name of the pony when the pony has been bred by the holder of the Prefix or when the pony's dam was in foal at the time of purchase by the holder of the Prefix. Prefixes should NOT be used following the pony's name with the addition of the word of, I.e. Pony's Name of Prefix
On payment of the appropriate fee, any member may register a Prefix that is not already registered with either the NFPA, Inc. and/or the British Central Prefix Register. Prefixes listed in Volume I of the NFPA Stud Book are not necessarily recognized by the British Central Prefix Register nor does registering a prefix with the NFPA, Inc. automatically confer registration within the BCPR.
Registration Fees
The fee for registering a New Forest Pony in the NFPA Stud Book is $30 for members, $40 for non-members.
A $10 late fee will be assessed for registration of foals after 6 months from birth.
Change of ownership/transfers is $20.
Registration of prefix is $10.
Membership in the New Forest Pony Association is not a requirement for registration.

Certificate Performance Pony; (Pfp)
Can be given to a mare, gelding or a non approved stallion.
The pony has to compete in open AA-A rated.
USEF shows in Hunter/Jumper walk, trot and canter with a min jump of 2.6”.
In dressage USDF recognized shows in Training level or high.
.In driving dressage or obstacle driving FEI Training level test 1 single pony driving.
Certificate Elite Mare. (E)
A mare can become Elite through her offspring. If she has offspring’s by 3 different stallions and has accumulated a total of 15 points.
Offspring's 3 years or older mares, geldings with a first placing in halter classes. NFPA High Point Year End Award Champion or Reserve Champion.
American Warmblood Society or American Warmblood Registry Pony division.
Weser-em, (German Riding Pony) ISR/Oldenburg or in open pony halter classes.
Certificate Performance Broodmare (Pfb)
A mare that has 2 of her offspring’s competing in 1 of the following,
Dressage, Hunter/Jumping or driving
The offspring’s need a total of 10 points
Points are counted the same as the Performance Pony.
Certificate Preferent Mare (Pref)
This is the highest honor a mare can receive.
A mare can become preferent through her offspring’s, she needs the offspring’s of 3 different stallions with a min of 12 points., offspring’s by 2 different stallions she needs a min of 15 points , offspring’s by 1 stallion she needs a min of 18 points.
3 years old or older mares with first placing.
3 years or older geldings with 1St placing.
Stallions that are none approved but received a star.
Star mares or geldings.
Crown mares.
Approved sons.
Certificate Preferent Breeding Stallions (Pref)
This is the highest honor a stallion can receive.
A stallion can become Preferent through his offspring’s and if have received the Mary Wilson Trophy.
He needs a total of 20 points
Points count same as Preferent Mare.
Mary Wilson Trophy for the US – 6 points.
Mudeford Streak Trophy for Can – 6 points
Certificate Star (S)
Star states are based on exterior conformation, type and movement. It can be given to a mare, gelding or a non- approved stallion.
The pony has to place in a halter class with NFPA High Point Halter or High Point NFPA Year End Pony.
American Warmblood Society or American Warmblood Registry in the Pony division Regional Champion or Reserve Champion or Year End Award or approved for breeding.
Weser-em ( German Riding Pony) approved for breeding or Regional Champion or Reserve Champion or Year End Award.
ISR/Oldenburg approved for breeding or Regional Champion or Reserve Champion or Year End Award.
Certificate Crown Mare (C)
A star mare over the age of 4years old with a New Forest foal on side.
This mare is a temporary Crown until she has completed her performance test in dressage Training level test 4 with a min of 58% or for the small size ponies a dressage driving test
Training level test 1.single driving.
How to enroll your pony.
These certificates are points accumulated on the pure bred New Forest Ponies only.
1. You need to be a member with the NFPA in good standing.
If there has been an interruption in you membership more that 2 years, you need to send in 5 years membership fees with your enrolment
2. Pony needs to be Pure Bred New Forest and Registered with NFPA .
3. Download the form from the website and fill in all the information on the pony, his offspring’s and performance record.
4. Have copies of show or inspections placing, approval and awards.
5. Send the form to our office by e-mail at info@newforestpony.net

6. The owner of the pony is responsible for sending in the updated information on offspring’s and performance before December 1st. We calculate all scores before December 10th for that calendar year.
7. To receive the certificate a one time fee of $15 is charged per certificate.
